BEFORE THE LIFE OF ZUUR

In the early '80s, more than 3,000 miles away in the country of El Salvador, a young boy named Miguel developed a keen eye for what people wore around him. This always fascinated him and this new found passion only grew in time. In Miguel’s small world around him, it was the norm to create clothes by hand, whether that meant borrowing a sewing machine from a neighbor or trying to stitch individually the hard way. By the age of nine, he was able to come to the states with his hard-working single mother. This immediately opened his eyes from previously only knowing that clothes were fabricated in his third-world home, to now discovering the abundance of clothing in LA! 

At this time in his life, this new community was driven by hip-hop music. Styled by loud colors and designs. This of course caught Miguel’s attention and he was blown away by these new fashion trends. Throughout the years, he found it remarkable to see how an idea could be produced into a recognisable brand. Even in the sports community, surfers, skateboarders, you name it would all wear brands from different industries. 

As Miguel navigated life as an adult, he found his lovely partner Candace, who shared the same passion for fashion as he did. While he enjoyed the life they built, it was always in the back of Miguel’s mind to put his name out there and leave his mark on “something.” Once his two daughters were born and their family was complete, it became the perfect time to design a dream that could one day be passed on to their girls. 

HOW ZUUR GOT ITS NAME

Before Zuur Apparel was official, it all came down to the name. Miguel and Candace wanted something unique, personal, and different to stand for their new family business. Sadly, what they thought would take a few months ended up being YEARS! Names they tried to trademark were taken, not aligned with the business, or just didn't make sense. It finally came down to finding the word Zuur, which is a Dutch adjective for acid. It is a perfect match for the neon-colored line. Fast forward five years, Zuur Apparel was born! (And finally trademarked!!! …Phew!)

This street casual wear has officially opened its doors to the digital world! Here you'll receive American-made products that are not only unique, and high quality but also help support a family business whose mission is to leave a legacy for their daughters. In the near future, Zuur Apparel’s plans include partnering with other badass companies in the community and providing opportunities for others to achieve success with them.
